Is Mike Bibby Headed to Cleveland?

Trade talks involving Mike Bibby have resurfaced.  Here’s the latest from Wendell Maxey:

mikebibby_214x268.jpgNow that Reggie Theus has been hired to right the ship in Sacramento, the next order of business is underway-what to do with Mike Bibby?

According to published reports, revisiting a trade scenario for the Sacramento Kings point guard is a possibility once again.

Right around February’s trade deadline, reports surfaced that the Kings were indeed shopping Bibby and there was much speculation that he could land in Cleveland.  Talk was cheap. The Cavs wanted Bibby and the Kings wanted some expiring contracts but General Manager Danny Ferry apparently wasn’t too interested in parting with such bargaining chips. No deal. Bibby remained in Sacramento where the Kings finished with a mere 33 wins and missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years.

As for the Cavs, Mike Brown struggled to solve their point guard predicament well into the NBA Finals using the trio of Larry Hughes, Boobie Gibson, and Eric Snow to plug the hole.

But that was then. And now, according to sources close to the Kings, Bibby is due back on the block and the Kings will revisit trade scenarios likely after next Thursday’s NBA Draft.

Sacramento holds the 10th overall pick in this year’s draft and word is the Kings are interested in taking point guard Mike Conley Jr., from Ohio State if he is still available at selection time. If Kings General Manager Geoff Petrie and his cabinet take Conley, chances are the move is a clear indication Bibby, who is still under contact until next season, is done in Sacramento.

Before long, the Kings loss could be the Cavs gain.

I say, “Go ahead Danny, make it happen.”

As some of you know, but many may not, I am a long time fan of Mike Bibby.  I think he would be a huge addition to the Cavs lineup, and quite honestly, I would be psyched to see him in a Cavs uniform.

He is a veteran point guard who averaged 17.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists last season, and started in all 82 games for the Kings.

With him leading the Cavs offense, Lebron could work his magic in the post or coming off screens.  When the defense converges on James…Swish!!!  There’s Bibby at the 3 point line lighting it up.   The 1-2 Punch!  I see it clear as day.

Lebron deserves a good point guard to lead his teams offense.  Someone who can see the floor and find him at every angle.  Someone capable of driving the lanes or hitting the long range jumper.  In my opinion, Bibby is that guy.

  1. bibby isn’t really what he used to be anyways and his numbers have gone down over the years.

  2. Alot of people aren’t what they used to be when they’re where they don’t wanna be or need to be. Put Bibby next to Lebron then watch his numbers. I think this would be a sick combo on offense.

  3. You should be talkin to the Cavs main coach to see if you could get a job next to him. You got this basketball thing down to a science. Give it a try and you just may become rich or even better you might get married to Bibby or Lebron. = D

  4. Someone said it would take Gooden and others to seal this deal. I know you’re a Bibby fan but I really don’t see this helping us.

  5. Too funny Retta 🙂 Now where would that leave Sed?

  6. Carl, with Bibby the floor would open up tremendously for the Cavs. Just think…

Lebron would never have to bring the ball up the floor, allowing him to get into an offensive rhythm moving towards the ball. Gibson would be the backup or protege of Bibby. Sasha and James would get more open looks leading to more made baskets, simply because of the threat that Bibby poses. Larry’s game would turn up a notch with him moving back to the 2 position, since it’s unlikely we’ll be able to trade him. And the post area would become a haven for Z, as defenses would have to respect our shooters.

If we get Bibby, trust me…We will be on fire next season!

Now I have yet to decide who I would be willing to let go on the team to make this happen, but I guess that’s why I’ll never be a GM. 🙂

  7. He would be the perfect compliment to Lebron’s quick, open court style of play. Together they would break defenses apart from the inside out. Lebron would start working on their interior and soon as they take the bait, Bibby would go to work on their exterior.

  8. Don’t get me wrong, we do need a good point guard, and Bibby seems to be a perfect fit, but I’m not for ridding Andy or Drew.

I personally would like to see something happen with Larry, but that’s probably not possible now, so I’m on the fence with this.

  9. yeah Larry’s not going anywhere, so bringin in a pg will help his game cause he’ll move back to shooting guard

  10. Hello Everyone,

I am a golfer myself and I like to play whenever I get a chance.
A short while ago, a very good friend of mine told me about a great golfing equipment and accessories website that has discounted prices on all their products, same day shipping in most cases and there is no state sales tax, they are paying that.
So if any golfer here is ready to save some money on quality products at highly discounted prices, you might want to check out their site at; http://hoffmangolf.com
