Andy Varejao’s Rate on the Decline

andyv_190x227.jpgOn Wednesday night, Varejao’s hopes of signing a hefty contract diminished.  The Grizzlies reportedly made a 3-year deal with Orlando Magic forward Darko Milicic, which will give him a first year salary in the range of $6-$7 million.

The Memphis Grizzlies, Charlotte Bobcats, and Milwaukee Bucks were the only teams under the salary cap at the beginning of free agency.  Now, as it stands, Memphis has signed Darko, the Bobcats have resigned Gerald Wallace, and the Bucks do not have a need for a forward.

I hear bells of joy ringing in the ears of the Cavs.  These moves will save them a nice chunk of money by allowing them to retain Andy at a decent price.

  1. This is good for the Cavs. I had predicted that Ferry would match any offer to keep Andy, since he’s central to this teams frontcourt success. Plus he’s a fan favorite in Cleveland. Now they can pretty much use their MLE to keep him.

  2. His rate should have never been on the rise. Andy has one dimension to his game. That is “flop”.

If we keep him for what he’s really worth and not some ridiculous amount, I’ll be somewhat ok with him being on the team for another year, since it doesn’t seem like we’ll be able to make any good moves this offseason. But I’ll be suprised if he gets any better or is able to add offense to his game.
